An auto recovery file appears in the drop down menu but not in ope

I need to access the auto recovery file of an important piece of university
work because I need to open it in recover text from any file. I'm not sure
why it disppeared in the first place but now I can see the autorecovery file
in my drop down menu but not when I go to open it. If I click on it in the
drop down menu it says that it has failed to open and the suggestion is to
open it in recover text from any file.
Please help me as this work is due in for tomorrow

An autorecovery file (filename.asd) if available is automatically opened by
Word from the folder
C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Word. (or
its equivalent user area in Vista).
Using Windows Explorer, locate that folder and if the file is present, right
click and select Open With - choose Word from the list.
If the file is not corrupt, it will open. If it is corrupt you *MAY* be able
to recover some of the information it contains by using recover any text
from file, which you will find in 'file types' in the Word File Open dialog.
If you actually saved the document the last saved copy should be in the
documents folder where you saved it.
If you are in the habit of losing files, Undelete 2009 Professional could be
used to replace your recycle bin. It automatically retains recovery
information to allow you to recover naturally deleted ASD (and other) files
and is a useful lifesaver. It does not however work retrospectively.
