AMD Opteron running hot

Is it normal / OK for a dual AMD Opteron 250 (3.4GHz) setup to run at 70C ?

CPU0 is 69C to 70C
CPU1 is 65C to 67C

The readings start out at 68C immediately after startup (within 10 seconds
or less, I go into hardware monitor in the BIOS).

I will get the BIOS and mainboard info tomorrow when I get back to work, but
I know the mainboard is a Gigabyte GA-7A8DW

The fans are running at 3500RPM. But fan or no fan, I don't see how these
things could get to 70C within 10 seconds. Something strange with that
reading.

Thanks

That sounds pretty hot. My Opterons - a 142 and a 246 - both run
at about 45C. Make sure the CPU fans are running. If so, check
the thermal paste.

Mine (246s) have been reporting that for over a year. Bad reporting routine
somewhere.

Yes, both are running (I can see them spinning) and the mainboard reports
them spinning at 3500rpm. The strange thing is that the mainboard reports
this temp within seconds... I don't think the CPUs have enough time to get
to 156F. That's crazy... in like 4 seconds flat? Must be bad reporting... I
hope. One word of advice... while feeling around the CPUs with your hand to
manually check the temperature, NEVER stick your finger in the CPU fan.
Cleanup is no fun.

Thanks - are you using the exact same board? If so, that makes me feel a
little better.

Different board -- Rioworks HDAMB. I've seen reports from several others in
the past year with different boards.
