AMD CPU driver?

Can anyone help me understand what this file/driver does?

As you can see there are new drivers dated May 2005, one is an .exe file and
4megs in size. Then you have a .zip file which is 981KB. Now i know one has
a GUI which is a larger file.

But what function does the smaller .zip file have?, it dosen't seem to
enable Cool 'N Quiet but is just a driver file for just the CPU?

A file called "AmdK8" gets added to C:/Windows/System32/Drivers....but thats
it it seems. So what function does this file add exactly?

As i said...it dosen't seem to enable Cool N' Quiet at all, normally a non
Plug & Play driver called cool and quiet also gets add, this is not listed.

Normally? I think you need to provide more information.

If the file does not do what AMD says it does, maybe you should
ask AMD.

This would seem to be rather explicit. For pre-XP windows you need the "AMD
Athlon 64 Cool’n’Quiet Software" and for XP you need the "AMD Athlon 64
Processor Driver for Windows XP."

change the power scheme. Open the ‘Power Options’ from the Control Panel.
Choose the power scheme ‘Minimal Power Management’ and click ‘OK’to enable
Cool ‘n’ Quiet."

"On a Windows 2000 or Windows ME system, an AMD Cool ‘n’ Quiet tab will
appear under Power Options when the Cool ‘n’ Quiet software for Windows
2000 and Windows ME is installed. This must be set to “Automatic Mode”for
Cool ‘n’ Quiet to be enabled."

measures the current processor clock speed of the computer, such as

All of which presumes you have a motherboard that properly supports the AMD

Why don't *you* try reading the information?


They BOTH have the title, and description, "AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor Driver
for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (exe) 1.2.2.2 - Allows the
system to automatically adjust the CPU speed, voltage and power combination
that match the instantaneous user performance need" with the distinction
being...

The (exe) description explicitly says "This package is recommended for
users whom desire a graphical user interface for installation. This .EXE
driver is a user friendly localized software installation of the driver
designed for end-users."

The (zip) description explicitly says "Download this Setup Installation
program (ZIP) to automatically update all the files necessary for
installation if you are using the Have Disk feature of Windows driver
installation."

So which method do you want to use, GUI or "have disk," to accomplish the
same thing?

Go argue with AMD if you think their zip "doesn't work."
