Highly unlikely. The problems aren't so much different
chips, it's between the card bios and the board bios
regardless if same or different chips are used. In general,
mixing works fine although today some boards can use hybrid
modes that disable the card to save power, or use it in
combination with integrated video to boost performance of
low end cards, only if they are both made by the same
company (nVidia or ATI) and both the chipset and card
support the feature (and again the bios has no bugs
regarding it).
Thanks. I expected that hybrid SLI/CF wouldn't work with mixed
chips.
I'm aiming quite low here - a GF8600GT with an AMD X2 7750+ on an
NVidia 8200 mobo perhaps. I asked about compatibility with ATI
chipsets because we often can't get what we want here in eastern
India, and mail ordering can be a PITA in India. ATI 780G and
790GX chipsets are all the rage now and I may not be able to get
a good NVidia-based mobo in my price range.
How much performance boost can be expected from running an 8600GT
with onboard 8200 in hybrid SLI mode - a few per cent over the
8600GT alone?
