AMD 2400+ vs. 3200+

I have a 2400+ and am thinking about upgrading to a 3200+. Right now I have
786 MB of PC2100 RAM. How much of a difference do you think it would make
if I got a 3200+ with 512 MB of PC3200 RAM? Or if I just got the 3200+
right now and got the RAM later. Any opinions?

Get a 2500+ and overclock to 3200+ speeds. BTW, what kind of mb are you
using.

I have a A7N8X-deluxe...I'd love to get the 64-bit but that's too much money
right now.

Blow the 3200 off get an Amd 64 3400.

That sounds like the best idea from a performance point of view indeed...
however, from the financial point of view, it's pretty much the worst idea
I could imagine, except for getting a 3.2GHz P4. Let's face it, it all
depends on the needs of the original poster, but supposed that his current
mainboard supports 200MHz DDR, this at least saves him investment in a new
mainboard.

As for the original poster, here's my own experience: I just built a dirt
cheap Athlon 2500 (Barton core) on a nVidia nForce2 board. I can overclock
the CPU successfully to 2.2GHz (3200+ value). However, besides that
performance tests tell me my system is faster, I don't notice the
difference with my kind of usage. So I keep it running at 1.8GHz (2500+
value), since it gets much less warm that way (39oC vs 51oC).

I have an A7N8X-Deluxe rev 2....I have an unlocked Barton 2500 running at
200x1100 (XP3200 speeds)..buying decent Ram and the processor will still set
you back a bit..personally I'd hold of till you can afford a total upgrade
and just run with what you have.

Don't tell me you unlocked your CPU to run a multiplier of "11" ;-)

no..mine came unlocked...am going to bump it back down to 9.5 again as there
is no real performance gain from 9.5 to 11

Ah, and run it at a 200MHz busspeed instead of 166MHz... smart! Mine
is locked, but it does run at 11x200 if I want to :) Just lucky with
the chip I guess.
