With Nero 6 you are limited to only 30 conversions unless you buy this
MP3Pro plugin for $20. It can make MP3's that are more compact with
better sound quality and less memory than other MP3 converter utilities.
I don't want to buy this if there's a free utility that can do the same
thing at the same quality without the limitations.

I don't know a freeware that produces MP3Pro, but I have no
problems sticking with regular MP3. Do you really need "more
compact with better sound quality and less memory" - which I
doubt, especially in sound quality. What is the difference
between compact and less memory? I don't believe playback of
MP3Pro consumes less memory, the files are just smaller.

For usual mp3 support try the download "beenthere" suggested
or try these (which I use and had no problems with):

Mp3pro isn't better sounding than regular mp3. It's OK with streaming,
but not for listening, because, unlike mp3, it cuts high frequencies
instead of encoding them, and then, when reproducing, it isn't
decoding them, but GUESSING them. It saves file stream with
approximatizations of how these frequency ranges looks like.

Hi Ivan!

Not only that. After some times I can guess from which recording...

Like a sample... more terrible.. as it is even lower in digital
resolution and samplerate. Brrr, shiver :)

P.S.: Alternative? A good cassette-deck!
