Alphabetical Sorting

I started a spreadsheet of stock market tickers. I listed the stocks
alphabetically by symbol, with the full name to the right.

It would be helpful if I could sort alphabetically by name. I have tried
selecting the cells and clicking on them, but that doesn't work. Can someone
help. Thanks in advance.

Select both columns then Data>Sort on Column B.

If all data is in one column then not so easy.

Is there any delimiter between the symbol and name that could be used to
split the column into two using Data>Text to Columns?

Or if the symbols are all same length, fixed width would work.
