Alpha-Sorting Favorites

OK, so now I know how to do it. But two questions:
(1) Why would the method be made so un-obvious? Seems it
would be something many folks would like to do.
(2) The auto alpha sort (something I would think everybody
would like to do also) is even more ridiculous. I noted the following
instructions:

If you want them to automatically alpha-sort even as new entries are
I'd be nervous even doing this because my mother taught me never
to tamper with the registry unless it was absolutely necessary.
Is it just me? Seems like a really nice browser with an
unforgiveable oversight, no?

Your post beat me to it Frank (Saunders). Still
would like your comments.
Thanks.

Thanks.

For (1) you'd have to ask the people who wrote the program and they aren't
even on the team anymore.
For that matter, the same goes for (2).
Many of us do not want favorites to auto sort.

C ould you please explain why auto-sorting would not be
desirable, and also explain exactly how the default works?
I seem to observe that recent entries are simply appended
to the bottom of the list as they are generated, but later they
seem to be alphabetized. My favorites list seems to have
a sorted part and an unsorted part, in other words, with the
unsorted eventually getting incorporated into the sorted
part. Specifically, what is going on?
Thanks very much for helping me understand this!

With auto-sorting an new favorite will be placed on the bottom until IE is
closed and re-opened and the list and Registry are read again. (or maybe
until the machine is restarted - I don't remember for sure)
Some of us have favorites lists short enough that we can usually remember
where on the list a site is.

Thanks. I guess I never noticed that. It still seems odd to me
that it should work that way. If alpha is desirable, seems it should
occur right away. Oh well, no browdy's perfect....:)

Even if you have a long list it may be more convenient to maintain
an order which is arranged more along the lines of a "most recently
used" list. (I gather that that is what the Personalize Favorites option
does but then to find less recently used ones you would have to open
the list extension.) Also, a non-sorted list gives you more options
for keyboard navigation. For example, if you have a lot of Favorites
which start with a particular character it can be easier to get to them
by learning how to navigate first to nearby ones which start with a different
first letter. For other Favorites it may be faster finding them in the
AutoSuggest dropdown where they will be sorted anyway.
