All the documents were messed up.

I am using Chinese WinXP and English Word 2000. A few days ago, I moved all
the documents from D: to E: so that I could format D: and re-install Win XP
and everything else including Office. However, when everything was done, I
tried to open some Word docs, but all I got was something like the following.

B* ïž© ) *;;*
*00* B 挕*** O{* *
C * €丞容* - , * * *L *1 +w欓瑟g嫩 *

* 0 å–bA*î ¿IO î„£*), ïƒ çŠ®â‚¬ç¿£8| @ * * & p * *î·*î«é†** 0 |M

It asked me to convert the files to some formats and I've tried both to
accept and decline, but it didn't work.

You might try asking this in the word.international.features newsgroup.
Possibly, you missed installing a necessary part of the Chinese IME that lets
you view such documents...
