All shortcuts and *.exe Programs only start this one program

1. I have a slideshow created from Cybermedia? about 2 years ago. It is
supposed to be a stand alone .exe file (named yelowstone2004.exe). It ran ok
in my hard drive. I copy the file and its related .flm file to a CD-ROM. I
cannot run the file on the CD-ROM. The system did not recognize what program
to run it.

2. I right-clicked the file and clicked the properies button. A window
popped up with the filename, file type but the next line "open with" is
blank. There is a "change" button on the right. I clicked on this "change"
button and select the program file (player.com) from "browse" feature.
However, the program did not work either.

3. From then on, all shortcuts and all icons in the Start or even in the
Control Panel, or the root directory of the other programs only start the
"player.com" program.

4. I tried the actions in para. 2 above with a different program (for
example Norton Utility), the all shortcuts and icons will start Norton
Utility (but it cannot run Norton either after the first window). I call
this is "sticky program" for reference later.

5. Even the programs called during start up of Windows after reboot would
only start that "sticky program".

6. If I boot Windows as a Guest, this prolem did NOT happen. "Guest" does
not have admin right; therefore, I cannot create another admin user to try
out. The existing Administrator user has the same problems as I am. By the
way, the "Users" shortcut in Contro Panel also starts the "sticky program."

7. Safe mode faces the same problems.

8. I restored Windows to an earlier point before the problems occurred (on
the same day) but it did not fix the problem.

9. I re-installed Windows XP Service Pack SP-2 but It did not fixed the
problem.

10. The "Run" MSCONFIG also starts the "sticky program".

Please help me to fix the problem.

Thay you very much.

In windows Explorer >Tools > Folder options >"File types" tab >
Search for exe ,if not found create it by clicking on "New" and type exe,
click "Advanced" and scroll dow to "Application" and click ok , if prompted
click yes.
May be this will solve your problem.
