All messages in my Inbox have disappeared

Two days ago, I opened my Outlook Express and all the
messages in my Inbox were gone and they weren't in the
Deleted folder. Mail in folders was still intact.
Yesterday and today, however, I can't even open my mail. I
get "this program has performed an illegal operation and
will shut down". Help!!!!
