all logins on all websites fail on Windows XP, registry problem?

I have installed Windows XP Home on my new PC, and got DSL setup. I can
access the internet fine with no problems, and surf the web. However,
whenever I try to enter login information on any webiste, I get an error
page(the standard error page for a failed server connection). I checked with
my DSL provider and they found no error with their service. It seems to be a
windows problem, probably a bad setting somewhere buried in all the internet
options (or registry?). Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Are these "https", secure, rather than "http"? If so open Internet
options, Advanced tab, and down at the bottom of the list check both SSL
settings. Try that. If this is XP SP2, then add the URL for secure
sites to the Trusted Sites zone in the Security tab; i.e.,
https://www.mybank.com/*, where the wildcard * takes care of any
subsequent redirects in that URL. In addition, try holding down the
control key when clicking the log on link in case a popup blocker is
active.
