Alias / Virtual UNC

We recently removed an old server from our corporate network, with the
reprecussion of a commonly used word template no longer available to existing
documents on another server. What I'm thinking of doing is creating an alias
UNC on another winxp pro PC with a share leading to a duplicate template. Is
this something that can be done?
 
Certainly -- if what you are saying is creating a new PC with the same
name. If you do that, be sure to delete any references to the old
server that might be listed in WINS or DNS. While it shouldn't be a
problem, legacy entries have been known to cause some confusion.
