aiw 9800 is it a $200+ waste

Reading up on it b4 buying I was under the impression the 9800 did both analog
and HDTV. Now after weeks of reading it appears that they released the HDTV
wonder that does the same as the AIW 9800 for $200.00 less.
Right or wrong ?

NON of the current AIW products recieves HDTV. They do have HD output
capability (so you can game aon your big screen!) but the TV tuner is

I had to assume from that statement that the HDTV card was also in the 9800
box. So either it's invisible or the statements lying. Cause I didn't see it in
my box.

And I'm pretty sure 9800 is a bigger number than 9600.
Would this be bait and switch ?

No. "A number of" means, "A number of". As in 1 or more. Not ALL. That
would be "ALL". If you purchased an AIW 9800 based on that statement,
without checking whether the box included the kit or not... then thats your
mistake. I think the statement is quite clear enough.

The HDTV Wonder is a TV tuner card that you ADD to your current Video card.
You have to buy something like a 9800 Pro or such and the HDTV wonder seprate.
They havent released a HDTV AIW combo TV/VIdeo card yet.

no, there are three boxes on the shelf.

The first is labeled "contains AIW 9600" (cost $xxx), the second is
labeled "contains HDTV Wonder" (cost $yyy) and the third is labeled
"contains AIW 9600 and HDTV Wonder" (cost $xxx+yyy-zz, with zz somewhere
between 0 and 50).

Just open your eyes.

tires come with some models. I'd guess those 'some models' wouldn't leave the
manufacturers parking lot. Even the distributors wouldn't buy grab bags.

Wonder" or words to that effect on the outside and expected there to be one
on the inside you're a damned fool.

If ATI packages the HDTV Wonder with any of their boards, you can bet that

When it says "On a number of 9600 and above" It means on some 9600 and
above. I.e, NOT on ALL 9600 and above and NOT on ANY below the 9600.
