AHHHHHHH Can Ney Browse!!!!!!!

Hi All,

Posted the mesage below earlier but no replies so far so I
thought I would ask again and add that after the
connection is established, not only can I not browse but
Outlook express will not connect either....HELP!!!!!!

Got another problem that I cant seem to get around.

Im using IE6 on Win ME and I can connect to the Internet
with no probelms. However, when I click on the IE6 icons
(does not matter which one), I get the infamous 'Page
cannot be displayed bit'. I also cannot get onto anything
else such as Norton Anti Virus Live Update either.

I have ran an IE6 repair and re-installed both that and
Win ME. A system restore did not change anything either.

Any ideas?

I am trying my best not to have to re-format this system.

Are you on a network? If not, do you have a firewall installed? If
not, can you open a dos box and ping a site? Do you know how to ping
a site? If you are able to ping, do you get a response?

If you don't get a ping response, then how do you know you are
connected to the internet?

do the usual run a virus scan with todays definitions.
update virus definitions once a day. run spybot from
safer-networking.org and update before scan on easy (or
download on another computer) and check your ip connection
whether it is static or dynamic. and in ie
tools,options,advanced,uncheck'enable third party browser
extensions',apply. in case you have spyware ,hijacker that
you can not see yet .

Im not on a network and not too sure how to ping a site.

The two ways I know I'm on the net are firstly the dial up
modem icons on the task bar and secondly if I pick up a
telephone that uses the same line and hear the
transmissions.

Open the Internet Options in Control Panel.
Uncheck "Enable third party browser enhancements" on the Advanced tab.

Then eliminate any scumware.
