Ahh.. its me educating the MVPs again... alas....

Dear MVPs... and other vistaboys,

there is a known problem with Vista and flash...

If you have installed vista, and have not installed the flash player from
the adobe site, bit install
live messenger, and send or recieve a wink, messenger prompts them to
install a flash player...

however that flash player installed this way is older...

on some sites this flashplayer is ok.. however if you go to
youtube it prompts you to install flash player again,
so that you have the latest version.. so you have to
go AGAIN to the adobe flash player site and it says its installed.. but its
NOT installed....nor is it really updated...

so you are trapped into an infinite loop!

the only solution is to use the uninstaller:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/

uninstall and THEN reinstall again....

I offer this information because clearly most people in here not even the
MVPs know the problems with VISTA....

that's why with most problems reported with flash, people are advised to use the uninstaller and then install fresh.

(e-mail address removed)

I know, but most people dont want, have the time, or even know how to do
this to solve the problem...

For a newbie it can be frustrating or even scarry.

anyway....

Using the uninstaller I provided in the link is easier for people providing
support like MVPs.....

At least this has been documented now on google groups and people will find
it...

One of the things I have done is create content with flash for sites and
other things...

one of the fears back in 1998-2000 was that flash was considered a plugin...
(technically it is),
and many big companies had the agenda "NO PLUGINGS".

After the explosion of flash content and the ease of installation those
fears went away...

and now you can find flash in every corner of the internet. Good because its
a fantastic product.

now vista has some strange problems with flash..... a step backwards?

Interesting. I don't have any problems with YouTube. So a good question
would be, what hosed the security?

I wonder if these were upgrades?

It's not clear from the Adobe thread, and there doesn't seem to be a
common link between the poster's issues. Flash player issues aren't
just limited to Vista. I encounter them fairly often on XP machines
and in some cases the cause turns out to be Registry Cleaners.

So true! I have a handle full of machines (XP) that want to install flash
every time they visit a site with flash. It installs and everything if
fine. Once you close ALL IE browsers and try again, it wants to install
again. I blame Adobe for this mess!

Wow, so you took a page from my book and told people that they needed to
uninstall and re-install flash.

You're not the first person to tell people this, nor was I, but I'm glad
that you know how to copy/paste and then credit yourself.

Good job :)

I have told people to use the uninstaller and re-install Flash before now
too..

You trying to give a certain MVP a run for his money in who's the
biggest prima donna?

It is for sure, and I do have sympathy with people who have hardware that
has been poorly supported or not supported at all by the manufacturers..
this is what I have..

Biostar T6100 M9 mobo.. everything recognized and working, but sound wasn't
brilliant
D-Link DWL G520 WLAN PCI card.. recognized as a 54mb G510, but still works
ok..
MSI TD256E NX6600 PCI-e nVidia video card.. recognized and working..
MS Desktop Elite wireless set.. worked but with the screensaver issue and no
way of assigning user keys..
HP 5150 Deskjet is networked from an XP machine, and works ok..
Canon Lide 30 scanner.. the XP drivers worked...

I upgraded the RealTek sound drivers when they became available.. D-Link are
working on drivers that will correct the WLAN issue.. MSI are at the mercy
of nVidia presently, as are we all.. and the keyboard/mouse issue was fixed
with an MS update..

I didn't have any major issues, even with the betas and RC's.. and the only
software I lost of any merit was Nero 6..

So if somebody tells me that Vista is complete garbage and will not run at
all, I am bound to disagree.. I have UAC turned off because it annoys me,
and I do get frustrated sometimes with the speed at which files are moved,
but not enough to go back to XP which I have set up as an entirely separate
installation..

I had four games on XP, only one of which I installed on Vista RTM.. CFS3
works well with the nVidia 97.46 driver, Age of Empires 3 will run, but I
don't have time to play it so is not installed, Halo will not install as I
understand, but I don't really care as I generally die within seconds, and
Fable I have not tried out yet..

One laugh I did get recently was with Adobe 8 reader.. the installation file
has to be in the root directory and UAC must be enabled.. lol.. too funny..
exit Adobe Reader, and hello Foxit..

Im sure you did mike.. im just teasing the Mvps because
they keep saying things are working.. however its a jungle out there...

I wanted also to point out the detail of the flash installation from live
messenger. Its good to warn people not to install flash that way. Im not
sure if MS has fixed it.. perhaps
it would be a good idea to somehow tell the messenger team
to redirect to the adobe flash page instead...

Wonderful. I put up a poster on the wall with all the MVP names and
the usual smart ass crowd listed. Little Mikey gets a gold star for
helping somebody. Class, applaud Mikey. Anybody else I may have
missed?

Actually Halo and Fable both work here :)

I'm not on drugs but I can give you a primer on how Newsgroups work.

Let's say I create a post.

It will look something like this

Blah Blah My Name

Now if you add a reply it will look like this

- Blah Blah My Name
- Re:Blah Blah Your Name

Now if there's a reply to your post (not my original) it will look like this

- Blah Blah My Name
- Re:Blah Blah Your Name
- Re:Blah Blah 3rd Name

Now if someone comes in at this point and replies to my original post (not
the others) it will look like this

- Blah Blah My Name
- Re:Blah Blah Your Name
- Re:Blah Blah 3rd Name
- Re:Blah Blah 4th Name

Do you see how the Your Name & 4th Name posts line up?

That means they are called in-line replies. That means I was replying to the
original post, and not any of the subsequent posts.

To demonstrate if I click on that little - next to the Your Name post it
would look like this

- Blah Blah My Name
+ Re:Blah Blah Your Name
- Re:Blah Blah 4th Name

Now do you understand why it appears that way?

Also if you read my post and have no idea what I'm talking about then you
should seek some serious help.

I'll make it simple. You posted about the flash issue and made fun of
MVP's.

You then posted how to solve it, and suggested MVP's don't know this info or
if they do don't post it.

However, MVP's, myself, and others have already posted this info in the
threads here.

So basically I was ridiculing you for just now learning how to use
cut/paste.

Why would I try to give an MVP a run for anything?

I'm not an MVP nor do I expect to ever become an MVP.

Also the definition of prima donna (in the context that you're using it) is
a vain or undisciplined person who finds it difficult to work under
direction or as part of a team.

I work just fine with others either above or below me in rank or stature.

I however do not work fine with people who are demanding, whiny little
babies.

That's the category you fall into.

You're barely old enough to wipe your own ass.

You sure you're not on drugs? You make the stupid assumption
everybody sets their news reader to threaded view. A lot of people
don't. You'll never learn kid, but do keep trying. Some day with
practive you may be able to walk and chew gum at the same time.

get along with anyone :(

I'd ask for a link to your data but we all know you're full of crap.

You've said that about what? 50+ times already to about 20+ people?

adam, adam, adam.... girls will never start liking you if you keep playing
the childish bully role.

You couldn't work for me at all. I never hired punks that think their
own shit don't stink. You got a lot of growing up to do boy.

Adam don't take any guff from smartass punks. Respect your elders kid,
they know way more then you do.

Common sense is all that's required. Shame you have none.
