Ok I just reformatted my pc. I installed all the drivers on the cd's that
came with the pc. Yet I still cant connect to the net via my cable modem. I
can connect through my phone line though. I called my cable company but they
said my pc isnt recognizing my network hardware which came with it. Any
suggestions? Anyone?

when you go into device manager, is there a little yellow exclamation mark
beside the network card? If there is, then you haven't got it installed
properly. Try re-installing the drivers from the CD you have.

If thats fine, then try renewing your IP. go into a command prompt (type
cmd in the run box) then type ipconfig /release. Then type ipconfig /renew.
If you get an IP address you are good to go.

No it doesnt..its doesnt even have network card as an option in the device
manager.. the two things that have yellow exclamation marks are the ethernet
controller and video controller. The cd I have doesnt seem to have the driver
I need on it...Any other suggestions? could i download it from somewhere...i
have no clue as to what to do..thanks in advance

There ya go. The ethernet controller is your network card. If you're sure
the drivers arent' on the CD you have, then you have to use another computer
to download them. First figure out what kind of card you have. Sometimes
device manager can tell you what kind it is, otherwise you'll have to open
the case to get a look at the model number. Then just google search for the
name and "drivers", download them to the other computer, then copy to a
floppy to bring over to the sick computer.
If you have the CD that came with the computer, the drivers really should be
on there. I would do another look just to make sure. Try installing the
drivers for the ethernet controller, and when windows asks where to look,
point it to that CD. I should be able to find them.
Good luck
