As suggested earlier-I checked for any problem devices.

Result : NT Apm/Legacy interface node................Root/NTARM
/0000.................This device is disabled


System has crashed twice as I was installing other hardware,Modem so I went
to proceed with caution this time.

advise please.

In the meantime I connected the floppy drive and restarted and I got the
blue screen of death
but it shuts down before I can see the error message.I'm inclined to use a
hammer at this stage-
a very heavy hammer.
