Advice Please, on Visual Basic 5/6

on WinAmp, and WinCode

As a matter of course, when I do a new install

(as in, when I fdisk, format, and reinstall my OS (XP Pro),

I will load among my "basics"
LView (screen capture)
mobo drivers
sound card drivers
video drivers
Direct X9
AV
Firewall

Visual Basic 5 and Visual Basic 6

I figure last I heard, Visual Basic is something that many
programs-- including Windows-- require, and that it makes
sense to have Visual Basic installed so the program that
needs it doesn't have to run a "runtime version."

is that a realistic assessment? I don't want to load stuff I
don't need.

--

next issue, I've read several comments on WinAmp and
WinCode.

I have both, but I don't use either.
Can someone explain to me in simple terms what those
programs are, so I know if I need them?

TIA
