Advice on SpyHunter

Does anyone know if SpyHunter is still okay? Recently I found it was
itself tainted by some sort of viral problem ( TROJ_KREPPER.Y etc).

I use Trend Micro PC-Cillin AV plus its other features including the
second firewall (the other one being the WIN XP one).

PC-Cillin solved the Krepper problem but I am wondering if the
SpyHunter has been compromised.

The reasons are:

- Lately it has found mostly nothing.
- It was affected by viruses (which I wonder if they were built in?)
- Recently there was a comprehensive Program Update which changed
the way it looks. Also the definitions were updated at the same time and
the viruses showed up around that time too.
- I checked when I paid and it was well over a year ago?? Should they
not have asked for a renewal on the anniversary?
- Finally, today it had another major program update. I tried it second
and third time and it keeps updating when it is actually supposed to
update only once and then refuse and say "you have the latest program
already" - ???

Any constructive comments will be appreciated.

Here's your advice -- "...cannot be recommended because of its mediocre performance as an
anti-spyware scanner. Testing indicates that it does not recognize some well-known spyware
installations and has difficulty removing critical spyware/adware files even from those it
does recognize. Given the many excellent competing anti-spyware applications that are
available (some for free), users would do better looking elsewhere..."
