Order, Advice, Best Practices to Elim. XP Virus

Newbie here-trying to combat a few viruses ( Backdoor.Jeem,
Adware.Iefeats )

What is the best order to do these in ?
( Norton/Symantec anti-virus, is getting, quaranteening most, but not
all )

A) Get all WXP patches ( I've ignored them for the most part )

B) Follow the NAV advice, and start-up in safe mode, Make Registry
changes to eliminate

C) Get stinger, panda, spychecker, housecall or one of the anti-virus
programs that may be more vigilant, effective

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Could some one also tell me the importance of making these fixes
(Registry changes) in Safe Mode ?
TIA - and I'm looking forward to your advice. RJK
Backdoor is a trojan not a virus... you need the appropriate
programs to delete bugs like this one..
Antivirus programs delete viruses and also detect trojans but they
do not delete all... for that purpose install spyware and trojan cleaners
the programs recommended here delete most trojans, spyware,
hijackers, etc. but for hard cases, you should run them in safe mode..
that will make it unnecessary to delete them manually from the
registry.
Here are a few tips for safe surfing the net, and recommended software.
Enable the Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall... or install a
third party firewall like Zone Alarm or Sygate Personal Firewall.
Update your system with at least the Service Pack Updates and
the Critical Security Updates.
Update your antivirus program freequently or set it to autoupdate
Always go on the Internet with a regular user account and only use
an administrative account when it's absolutely necessary.
Delete your cookies and temporary internet files after each session.
Or set your system to auto delete them.
To auto delete cookies:
Control Panel\Internet Options\Privacy\Advanced Options\check "Overwrite
auto administration of cookies", check; Block origin cookies, check;
Third party cookies, and check; Allways accept session cookies
To auto delete Temporary Internet Files:
Internet Options\Advanced Options\scroll down and check last value;
"Empty Temporary Internet Files Folder when Intenet Explorer closes"
Install "The Cleaner" from www.moosoft.com (Trojan Cleaner) $49.95
