Hi

I am upgrading from XP Home to Vista. Will I need to reinstall all my
programmes and set up all my preferences from scratch? Or do these all stay
intact?

Is there anything I need to be particularly aware of before upgrading?

Download and run the Vista Upgrade advisor from the MS website. It will help
identify any potential problems you may run into.

Once you have addressed the things you find, an upgrade will keep all of
your current programs and settings intact, with a few exceptions.

If you have something in particular you are concerned about, post back the
specifics.

Can be done either way, but I'd suggest you do a clean install of Vista
on a separate partition rather than upgrade the XP. There are still
some quirky bugs in Vista that may or may not affect your machine. If
you hit one of those quirks you may be glad you still have XP intact.

Lots more to read in the vista_installation newsgroup, also.

Thanks LaRoux. I didn't know therer was a Vista Upgrade advisor. I'll give it
a go.

Don
Thanks for the advice. I'll check out the other discussion group also.
