I'm having trouble following instructions in the Que "Using Microsoft Windows
XP Professional" book on how to take advantage of the "Effective Permissions"
tab under "[filename] Properties/Security/Advanced" to PREVIEW permissions
changes before actually applying them. The book urges such a "preview" to
avoid unintended mistakes in assigning file and folder permissions. ("This
dialog box displays the effective permissions AS EDITED, before they are
applied to the file folder. This lets you verify that the permissions you
have set operate as desired before committing them to the file by clicking OK
or Apply.")

Nevertheless, I'm not seeing any changes on the "Effective Permissions" page
until AFTER I "Apply" the changes, at which point it seems too late to
easlily reverse them. What part of this procedure am I misunderstanding? In
general, I can't seem to find a COMPLETE tutorial on how to assign AND TEST
NTFS permissions in XP Professional. Can anybody recommend one?
