Adprep from R2 or not

Eddie

Hello, I am upgrading 2 win2k DC's (PDC&BDC) to win2k3 standard but only have
the win2k3 R2 media. Can I still use the R2 adprep even though I'm not
installing the win2k3 R2 version? If not where can I find the older version
of adprep?

Thanks,
Eddie

Win 2k R2 is a 2 CD set. The first CD is the Win 2k3 with SP 2 and the
second CD is the R2 features. To prepare the Win 2k domain for Win 2k3 run
adprep from the first CD of the R2 set. To prepare the Win 2k3 domain for
the R2 features run adprep from the second CD of the R2 set.

Hello Eddie,

Yes, the first disk form the R2 set is the "normal" server 2003. The second
includes the adprep for R2 DC.

Jorge de Almeida Pinto [MVP - DS]

the R2 distribution set contains 2 CDs.
depending on the service pack version...
CD1 contains w2k3 with either SP1 or SP2
CD2 contains the R2 binaries (which are SP1 based) and it could also be SP2

Regarding ADPREP:
CD1 contains ADPREP for w2k3
CD2 contains ADPREP for w2k3r2

If I'm not mistaken in the SOURCES\ADPREP directory

You can use the R2 (Disk2) cd, even if you are only going to use the
standard 2003 implementation.
