Several months ago Adobe Reader 8.1 auto updated it self and now when I boot
my machine that is running Windows XP Home SP2 I get the following.

Adobe Reader opens and displays the following error message ( Adobe Reader
could not open 'rundll32.exe' because it is either not a supported file type
or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email
attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

I have tryed to go into control panel to remove Adobe, however when I click
on the remove software icon I get the same message Need help in overcoming

Hello Buddy,

Run SFC to see if any file from the OS has been delete or corrupt.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click on the Command
Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".

Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

<http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html>
if any files are damaged or missing they will be replaced using the files on
the windows disk

Good luck

Manually remove Adobe Reader (8.x on Windows)
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb400769&sliceId=2

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Scroll down and download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility Package.

In XP go to Start, then Search and look for MSICuu2.exe. When the icon
shows up, run the program. After its done, you will get a list of files.
Click on Adobe and it will remove it.

Alternatively you can try:
Brute Force Uninstaller
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Brute_Force_Uninstaller_BFU_d4714.html
and/or
Revo Uninstaller
http://www.revouninstaller.com/

A better alternatives to Adobe Reader are:
Foxit reader.
The free version can be obtained from URL:-
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
or
PDF XChange Viewer for free!

you may want to check http://www.appremover.com which silently uninstalls
nearly any security solutions like antivirus antispyware and other
applicaions
