what is the comparison between the two programs

If I were a "betting man", I'd wager that you would stand a much better
chance of getting a good answer, if you were asking in a newsgroup about
desktop publishing or word processing. This newsgroup, however, is about
Microsoft Access database software; the online user interface you used may
have misled you. (Another hint: there will not be a newsgroup for PageMaker
in the microsoft-sponsored newsgroups because it is not a Microsoft product.
You'll need to find a USENET newsgroup, or visit the Adobe site at
www.adobe.com/products/pagemaker/ for information about that product.)

Microsoft Word is a word processor, but a very capable one that can create
many very complex publications. PageMaker is a desktop publishing program,
not necessarily all that great for word processing, but with many special
formatting features.
