admistrator/owner

For some reason (probably mine) I am no longer the admistrator of my own
computer. So therefore I cannot do auto updates. I must log onto my
computer under owner, but I don't know that for sure. What must I do to
regain control of my computer?

are you able to do manual updates ?
if so, then you are already logged in with Administrator privileges, and
can change the setting to Auto Update, from Notify Me But Don't
Automatically Download, using Control Panel. Auto updates are done
automatically without asking. Normally, people don't "do Auto Updates",
because Auto Updates are not done Manually.

if not, then your account no longer has Admin privileges, but there
still is an account on your PC somewhere, that does have Admin
privileges. since i don't know what it is, you will need to ask the
person/vendor where you bought the PC.

The story is that I had to do a full recovery. The option never came up as
to where I login. I was in the process of reinstalling my programs, while
Msn was also upating. Was almost home free until Msn send SP2 and I said
install. Told me to wait.. so I did for almost an hour. At that time I had
to turn the power off and restarted cuz I thought it was hung up. When I
turned the computer on I got a note saying that the down load had been
interrupted and was going to restore to a previous point. So I let it.
Im in a position now that neither manual nor auto is working because the
download site says I'm not the admistrator. Otherwise all is ok.

XP Home has a built-in Administrators account (other than Owner). Since
i don't know that account name/password, you will have to ask the
person/vendor where you bought the PC.
