I accidentally erased my system administrator on my computer. Is there
anyway to reset? I can log on just can't do certain things.

Hi

Do you mean the Administrator Account or an Account with Administrator
permissions?

So just HOW do you think that you erased the Administrator account?

You cannot delete the built-in Administrator account. In XP Home, boot
the computer into Safe Mode. Do this by repeatedly tapping the F8 key
as the computer is starting up. This will get you to the right menu.
Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not work here. Once in
Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden Administrator account. The
default password is a blank.

In XP Pro, you do not need to go into Safe Mode. At the Welcome Screen,
do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in
"Administrator" and whatever password you assigned when you set up
Windows.

If you reset the built-in Administrator account's password in Home or
have Pro and don't remember the password, use NTpasswd to change the
built-in Administrator account's password to a blank.

Then go to the User Accounts applet in Control Panel and set passwords
that you will remember and make other desired changes such as creating
another user account with administrative privileges.

account with administrator and when I go into safe mode and use administrator
it kicks me out

when I go into safe mode and the administrator shows up to log in, it says
logging in then saving setting and never lets me into the computer

Can you log into another user account? What does "never lets me into the
computer" actually mean? What *exactly* happens? Since it is impossible
to delete the built-in Administrator account, what does "I accidentally
erased my system administrator" mean?

Could this knowledge base article possibly apply?

Remember that we cannot see your computer and we do not know what you
did. If troubleshooting via a newsgroup is difficult (and there is no
shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea since we all have our

when I start XP in safe mode the screen comes up with administrator. When I
click on it, it says logging in (doesn't ask for a password) and then says
saving setting. It never leaves the welcome screen. I deleted the user
account that had administrator on it.

yes I can go in on other users

Are the other users computer administrators? If so, then the troubled
user account is probably corrupt. Create a new user account with
administrative privileges and test it.

You said: "I deleted the user account that had administrator on it."
Again, it is not possible to delete the built-in Administrator account
so you apparently deleted some other account.

If you truly have a corrupt built-in Administrator account and you truly
do not have any other accounts on the system that have administrative
privileges, then do a Repair Install.

How-To

If the Repair Install doesn't work, then back up your data and
clean-install Windows.

Based on your various posts in this thread, you should consider taking
my advice to have a professional work on the machine. I'm not saying
that to hurt your feelings; just being practical.
