administrator setup on home computer

hi,
hope someone can help. recently, was given computer as a
gift. it will not let me run certain things unless i am an
administrator. i have no clue what that means or how to
change it. HHHHHHHEEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPP. thank you.

Try posting to a group that is more on topic. You didn't indicate what
operating system is on your computer, and if it is 2000, you'll probably
have better luck in the .general group than you will in the command prompt
group. That .admin part is short for the act of administrating, I'd say.
