Administrator priviliges

I recieved my laptop from my high school and they set
it all up for me. Since i've changed schools i realized
that they set administrative priviliges on my laptop, so
i can't put or take off anything on my computer. i really
need to know how to disable the administrative priviliges
or i need to know how to make myself an administrator.
Any help you can give me helps.

one approach would be to take the computer to the old HS,
and have the administrator who set it up for you change the
password to one they could give to you. If they set it up,
they should have kept a record of the PW they set when they
did.

It's possible too that they use an insecure password on
setups of computers for students - like no PW, or your
name, or "password" or "login". If that's the case you
could just call the old HS and ask them what the initial
Admin PW for computers they setup for students is.
