I cant install anything on my computer, no updates,
nothing..because my account isnt an administrator
account...and no one seems to know the password for the
Administrator account...i tried to get Microsoft to help
me but it seems my Product ID was used to the limit!!!!!
I dont know what to do, I want to install new hardware
and get windows updates, but i cant do anything. MY
computer is hostage. Please someone help me reset my
password, or find a way to make my current account an
administrator. This is a home computer, so I really dont
even know why we have an Administrator!

Boot your computer from dos with a boot disk or adjust
your bios to boot from cd. Then boot into dos wipe your
hard drive to clean it off using fdisk. The Reinstall XP
then you should be on your way

Roberto, We share very similiar problems by not having
the proper Administrator privleges on a single user XP
Home Edition System. While I am able to do most
administrator related items, I suddenly cannot run the
Norton LiveUpDate program because it says the proper
permission rights have not been assigned. This starting
happening after many months of successful runs. So far,
I have confirmed that XP Home Edition does not have an
Administrator user set up. That's most likely why you
cannot get a password for it. If you go to Control Panel
and dlb clk User Accounts you can verify if you have been
assigned as the "Computer Administrator". If you have
then we share identical problems. Even tho' you are
assigned as Computer Administrator, the proper permissons
have not been assigned. I am currently trying to find a
file that contains the permisson rights. Perhaps this
file has somehow been clobbered. Good Luck in your
search. Rawbow

These problems sound familiar, so I have to ask, that
would delete all my files on my computer, no?
