"Administrator" password change

One of the first choices I had to make when I got my computer was to choose a
name and password for the original “Administrator.†I used that account for a
while before I learned that I should make an account with a different name
for every day use, which I did, then I promptly forgot the password for the
original Administrator account.

Today I started to use the mmc to give the original “Administrator†account
a new password but was stopped by a warning that I may loose some data, such
as encrypted e-mail, passwords saved, and other user encrypted files. I don’t
think I have any saved passwords or encrypted files, but now I am concerned.

My Question: If I do this and discover some data loss, will system restore
or my Ghost back up (to a different partition) still save me? Or will this
data be wiped clean every where on my computer?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi,

System Restore wouldn't help, but the ghost image would as it is nothing
more than a copy of the system as it was at a certain point in time. Two
things:

1) You should not use the enryption without knowing exactly what you're
doing. There are precautions you must take such as backing up the encryption
certificate and creating a recovery agent. Without these data can easily be
lost.

2) It's not easily possible to accidentally encrypt data, so unless you
purposely did it is highly unlikely that this will be an issue for you.

Ok, Thanks for the help Rick, I will do an new back up with my Ghost and then
make an attempt to erase the need for a password on the Admisistrator
account, or at least use a password that I will never forget.
