I had an administrators account, changed my user name to
have administrator priviledges, now the administrator
icon has disappeared and I can't load new programs
because I don't have 'admistrator priviledges!!! What to
do? Help!

Brian,

Press the CTRL-ALT-DEL keys (together) twice quickly at the Welcome screen,
this will bring up the old logon box. You can then logon as the
Administrator account there.

Hold down Ctrl+Alt+Del on the welcome screen for 2 seconds.

You can also manually add an account to the welcome screen:
Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList
Create a value for the users you want to list (using the Username),
and set the value to 1.

If all else fails, remember you can always make certain
changes through the boot-up utility of your computer.

It's usually accessed by:
1) shut down
2) start up, and before Windows splash screen appears
3) hold down defined F-key to access boot-up utilities

That "defined F-key" is usually F8 or F10. For Windows
XP, both have a different purpose and F10 would be the
one you'd want to use for your situation.
