I have Windows XP Home. I now have three applications that tells me that I
need "Administrative rights " to use the application. My account is the only
account, stating computer administrator, with the exception of the guest
account. How did I lose the administrative rights? I have tried to install
one of the programs from safe mode logged in the administrator's account,
and I still get the message that I need administrator rights. What am I
doing wrong?

Have you tried this:
To resolve this behavior, follow these steps.
1.. Click Start, and then click Run.
2.. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3.. Locate and click (highlight) the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

4.. In the right pane of the Registry Editor window, double-click Common
Administrative Tools.
5.. In the Value data box of the Edit String dialog box that appears, type
the following line, and then click OK:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools

6.. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
7.. Restart the computer.
