Have you tried to make a new account,
1. Go to start control panel, User accounts click on it, Do you see an
account for computer administrator, if so double click on it when it opens
scroll down to "Change My Account Type," and click on it, up top there are
two choices computer admin or limited (by default in xp home edition you
cannot change account to limited) so is the dot in computer admin????

2.Go back to 'Pick a Task Page' and go to "Create a New Account", click on
it, Put your name in here (any Name that you want) hit next, "Pick An
Account Type", put a check in Computer Admin, and hit the create button
below. If you are successful this account will have full administrator
privileges
If this has not been any help to you please reply,

There is always an administrator account on the system. Windows XP won't
let you have less than one. The built in account named Administrator (an
account that is usually hidden) is still there.

If this is XP Home, boot to Safe Mode by pressing F8 after the POST screen
and before XP starts to load. When the advanced start menu appears, select
Safe Mode boot option. If the Welcome screen appears, select Administrator
to log on with. If a password has never been set for this account leave
that field blank. If no Welcome screen the Win2000 style login prompt
appears. Type in Administrator and, again, leave password field blank.

If this is XP Pro, no need to boot to safe mode. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice
at the Welcome screen to bring up the Win2000 style logon prompt. Then log
on to Administrator as described above.

Once logged on, you can use Control Panel> User Accounts to change your
regular account back to the administrator group.
