Admin lock-out from GPO editing

Hello,

I just reinstalled Win2K Pro on this machine and
downloaded all the patches, but now I find that my IE
settings aren't saved and the Media Player 9 setup just
keeps looping on itself. Knowledge base said something
about there being a group policy setup to not save these
settings, but I cannot access the GPO on this machine,
which is not admined by anyone on the network (it's a
college LAN). Knowledge base didn't really help.
Everything there concerning GPO and Admin lock-out from it
is Win2k Server-related primarily so there's no
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\ in the registry in 2k
Pro for me.

Could someone please direct me to a 2k Pro specific
article about this or perhaps tell me if there's a simpler
way of resolving the problem?

have you checked the event log? in the application log sometimes there is an userenv 1000 error that will occure that will prvent the registry from unloading, and thus not saving any profile changes.
