Adjusting registry size not avalible

Until you mentioned it I had never heard of any way to 'adjust' the registry
size. I clicked on the link you gave and followed the instructions in the
article - no such adjustment option on my system either.

Something here does not compute.

Very strange ...

Are you sure that this messages comes from Windows xp sp2
not from some registry "utility"...

The registry size quota is related to NT4...
But the link shows in your post talk about this for XP (before sp1 ???)???
(? I'm full of perplexity with this...)
May be outdated ???

Look this:
Registry Size Limit functionality has been removed from Windows Server 2003 and from Windows XP

1 - check in the logs:
Start | Run | eventvwr.msc

2- check also the paging file...
Pagefile.sys ("hidden file") must exist on C:\
The user "SYSTEM" must have the full access to the drive C:
and you must have at least the minimum size recommended for
your system...
Control panel | system ...

3- check what's running in your PC

May be some "useless utility" or malware... ;-)

Check what's running on that PC :

1)
Check the applications started at boot and keep them
to the minimum.

instead of using msconfig used Starter from CodeStuff...

Check for applications in your account and All users
(from an admin account...)

2)
Control what's running on that PC with this tools:

Process Explorer :
(an enhanced Task Manager!)

Check your firewall configuration and make sure your PC is "stealth":

Run the "Shields Up" test .Everythings must be "green" ...

b)
Update frequently your anti-virus and your anti-spywares.
( MS Anti-spyware, SpyBot S&D, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster and
Spyware Guard... more than one is better since no one are 100% reliable...)
and
scan in safe mode...

c)
And check if the AV is set to protect your PC "On Access"
(in the so-called "real-time") not only "on demand" ( scan
runned after the problem...)

d)
Used an alternate Internet Browser and keep IE
only for Windows updates and MS specific stuff.
By alternate I mean :
Firefox or Opera (not Maxthon, Avant etc.)

e)
Avoid to surf on the Web from an administrator account.

f)
