Adjusting Monitor Brightness

I just upgraded from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. Now, my monitor is much
darker than it was before. Clearly, there must be some software control over
the brightness. How can I turn up the brightness with Windows XP?

Is this a laptop or a desktop?
Have you checked Display properties?
Have you tried the monitor controls?
Do you have an XP compatible display adapter installed?

I have a desktop.

I've checked the display properties, but I can't find any brightness
adjustment there. Exactly where is it?

The monitor's physical brightness setting is at the maximum.

As for whether I have an XP-compatible display adapter, I haven't a clue.
Are you implying that I might have to get a new monitor just because I
upgraded from Windows 2000 to Windows XP?

Okay, I'll do that, but I think you guys are taking for granted something I
don't understand yet. When everything is working properly, how do you use
Windows XP to adjust the brightness of the monitor? Where are the controls?

They're part of the video drivers and are dependent upon having the current
monitor .inf file.

Try going to Control Panel/Display
Properties/Settings/Advanced. A lot of the cards these days
put up a tab in that screen. If your card is shown, click
on it and you should be able to find what you are after. Luck

you may have figured this out by now but hold down the blue fn button on your key pad (lower left) then you can adjust your brightness by clicking on the f7 or f8 buttons
