Address book lost

My old laptop's graphic card failed so I removed the old hard disk and
installed it in a stand alone case. I connected the old hard disk to another
computer and then tried to use outlook to access my contacts address book.
Apparently the new computer is using the outlook copy on the local hard disk
and does not see the address book, etc thats on the old hard disk.

What do I have to do to copy the old address book to the new computer?

Thanks in advance,

G

Outlook typically uses the Contacts folder as an address book. Right click
on the Contacts folder, choose Properties, go to the Outlook Address Book
tab and make sure the "Show this folder as an email address book" box is
checked

You don't have to copy anything. In Outlook, click File>Open>Outlook Data
File and browse to the PST on the old HD. Select it and click OK. You'll
then have access to all the data it contains. Enable the Contacts folder in
it as an address book (right-click>Properties>Outlook Address Book>Show this
folder as an e-mail Address Book).

I checked that the Contacts folder is used as an email address book as you
suggested - still cannot see the old Contacts from the 'old hard disk'. I
think the problem is that Outlook is now running from a new copy of outlook
on the C: drive whereas the 'old copy' of outlook is on the remote E:
drive. Since I don't seem to be able to spawn that copy of outlook, I am not
able to see my 'old Contacts' folder. I guess I need a work around to be
able to start the 'old copy' of Outlook in E:, make a backup of the 'old'
Contacts folder and then copy the contacts to the 'new' Outlook contacts
folder on C:

Brian,

I searched for *.pst on both the C: and E: drives and did not a file on
either drive that ends with the .pst extension.

It may be interesting to note that I made a new entry in the Contacts folder
on C: to test and see if a .pst file was created. Still couldn't find one.

Any suggestions?

OK, I found the outlook.pst file on the :E drive. When I go to
File/Open/Outlook data File/ and browse to the file location on E:, I cannot
select the old outlook.pst file and open it in the running copy of Outlook.
I even tried typing the file name into the open file dialogue box with no
results. Whats up with that? The file exists but the running copy of outlook
won't accept it.....?
