Address Bar!

I'm after a bit a help! In my Internet Address bar there are a couple of
website addresses that appear when I begin to type in the letters of the
address. They do not appear when I click the arrow to open the address bar
and they are not in My Favourites! They have been there for months and I want
to get rid of them! I have tried Clear History and Delete Temp. Files, but
they have not worked! Do you know how to get these address to budge? and also
why are they stuck there anyway!

Hi there,

Open up Regedit, and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\TypedURLs

Find the offending URLs and delete them. Why they won't budge off that
address bar, I don't know.

If there are just a few, put the cursor over the address and it will
highlight. Tap the Delete key and it's gone.

Thankyou Margaret, I hope it helps. Just I don't know where Regedit is! Where
will find that? and Thankyou Bruce too but that didn't work!

Hi Baldwin :)

You don't mention the version of WIndows you are using, but, you might try
the following and see if it will help:

These URLs you're seeing are likely in the index.dat file in the History
folder.
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm
will delete the History folder (and the index.dat file) and a new one will
be created when
you restart.

Or the History folder can be deleted manually:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/
should be able to clear the History and the index.dat file.
Just check the appropriate boxes and run it.

Also ...

How to Clear the History Entries in Internet Explorer:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q157729
Removing some or all entries is an easy registry edit.

For an easier, safer removal method, go to
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
and download "DelTypedURL." This INF file will remove all entries.

This freeware program will remove some or all entries:
IE Address Bar Editor: http://www.freesoft.fsnet.co.uk/ieedit01.htm

Hope this helps.
