Address bar freezes when entering web address

Hi!
I'm using Internet Explorer 6.0 on Windows XP
Professional. Whenever I enter a web site address into
the address bar, the window freezes. I can go to other
applications (and even other IE windows), but it takes
about a minute for IE to "click" and come back to life
and visit the site. The IE window won't come up until
then, and until it "wakes up", the drop down menu for the
address bar won't go away even when viewing my Windows
desktop.
Thank you,
-Dale

This problem might indicate a corrupted History folder or index.dat file.
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder (and the index.dat file) and a new one will be created when
you restart.
Or the History folder can be deleted manually:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

And, there may be malware involved. It wouldn't hurt to work through the
solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

Hope this helps,
Don
