Address Bar does not use contacts.

Clem,

I am also having this problem with the address disappearing after the
third letter is typed. For example I wanted to send an email to
(e-mail address removed). I started typing a-l-e, and all three letters
disappeared. If I typed (e-mail address removed) it would be fine until I
tried to add the "e" it would all disappear. The other thing I noticed
is that the spell check is corrupt. It tells me "please", and "see"
are incorrect, and no suggestions.

Please let me know if you came up with a solution.

Regards,

Troy

Troy,

I was unable to find any resolution to this problem. Ultimately, the client
chose to upgrade their new desktop to Office 2003. When I upgraded it and
copied the .pst from the laptop, all was fine.

Although, I don't need to worry about this problem anymore, I'd love to know
if anyone finds the cause and solution.

Good luck!

Clem

Russ,

I don't know if this is similar, but it certainly appears to be
related.

I recently upgraded to Outlook 2003, and have now found that I can no
longer
enter email addresses in a first name-last name format. For example,
with
previous versions of Outlook, I could enter RUSS VALENTINE, and the
address
book would resolve the name. Now, I simply get a message that the name
is
not found, and I have to use the format VALENTINE, RUSS to get an
acceptable
address.

Is there a setting that will enable this feature?

Regards,

Tracy Clayton

:

Correct. "Autofill" is not a meaningful term. If you mean
autocompletion,
then NO, it does not use your address book. Outlook also has a
different
feature called autoresolution. It uses your Contacts data and address
book
engine. If you enter part of a name or a nickname then tab out of the
field
(or hit Alt-K [Check Names]), Outlook will attempt to resolve the name
against your address book. If it can't it'll red underline it and you
can
right click on the name to manually resolve it. Outlook will save the
resolution for future use.

Russ,

Maybe you could assist with this similar issue.

After upgrading a user from OE6 to Outlook 2003, they are no longer able to
have Outlook "autofill" the names of contacts that they are used to typing.
I know about the Outlook.n2k file, but would this apply to an upgrade from OE?

Thanks!

That would be the expected behavior. OE does not use a separate
autocompletion cache. It uses its Contact data. Outlook uses a separate
cache, and you will not have populated that cache until you send messages.
