Under w2k / XP Pro is it possible to set up an additional network name so
that my PC may be addressed as both eg \\MYPC\... and \\OTHERPC\... ?
I would like to do this to test some software on another PC which expects to
find some files at a fixed network location (ie \\OTHERPC\... in the
example).

Many thanks,

Denville.

Mark, thanks for the prompt reply.

I don't see how this helps, It's only a simple network without a Domain, I
need to add the alias directly to the PC. Any suggestions ??

Thanks again,

Denville.

A domain has nothing to do with it. The Windows 2000 Server will not respond
to an additional name unless you follow the article to make the
DisableStrictNameChecking registry key.
