adding to an existing project

I imported additional video footage but when I try to add these new clips to
the storyboard of an existing project won't play it. The clips don't seem to
be problematic in and of themselves, as they play fine if I create a brand
new storyboard with them. They just can't be added to my current project.
Is there any way around this? If I make a separate movie, can I merge them
afterwards??

Converting the video to WMV format might help. You can do this by putting
the the clip on the timeline in a new project and saving as movie (Ctrl-P).
