adding text

In a document, when I add new text to an existing paragraph, instead of
pushing the current text forward, it deletes it letter by letter as I type.
How do I undo this?

Press the Insert key. You're in overtype mode, and that key toggles between
overtype and insert modes.

Hi Tom-

It seems you have gotten into Overtype Mode. You can either press the Ins
key or go to Tools>Options>Edit and remove the check to deactivate it.

You are in Overtype mode. Press the Insert key once OR double-click OVR on
the status bar.
