Adding ports to run Messenger services behind firewall

I currently run an Internet Connection Firewall, and I
would like to add ports to run all the services (ie:
voice chat, video chat, file transfer, whiteboard, remote
assistance, application sharing etc...)

Unfortunately, I've no idea what ports I need to open, or
what specific IP addresses to use (since there are so
many). Could anyone please give me the exact info for the
service, IP Address, external and internal ports for all
the services?

Also, I know some UDP ports are from 5004 - 65535
does this mean I have to enter them all manually?

port 1863 is the only one I know about for Messenger.

Greetings Jen,

No, you don't need to enter them automatically. The Internet Connection Firewall will
automatically open the ports necessary for Audio/Video, Remote Assistance, Whiteboard and
Application Sharing. However, it will not open the ports for file transfer. Assuming you're
using Windows Messenger, simply open ports 6891 through 6900 TCP for sending files (it sounds
like you know exactly how to open the ports, so I won't list how to do that here).

Is this why so many of us are having voice problems need to open port for
voice ?

What is a port ?
