adding letters

Hello,
Like to know if possible please, is there a formula to add
letters from cells on different colums?

Ok I mean if ( this example, the x represents check mark)
Under 25
25 - 34 years
35 - 44 years x x x
Over 45 x x x

so at the end of the row, a cell should say 3 for total
for the amount 35-44 years ( what I would like it to say)
and 3 for Over 45.
Is that possible? Can anyone help. Thanks Merci

Assuming your data range for the Xs is B2:Z2

=COUNTIF(B2:Z2,"x")
