Adding hyperlink makes images vanish in FP2000

J

Jim Thompson

Setup:
FP2000, long time user, long time with my supportive webhost.
WinXPHome for 2 years.
I routinely install Microsoft's security and WinXPHome updates.
I manage my websites on my hard drive, and then publish to the server
with FP. Doing that for years.

Problem:
In the past few months images wtih hyperlinks are not visible when the
page is viewed on the server. If I delete the hyperlink and
republish, the image is again visible.

The particular image that I am testing now is a proper JPG file
(supplied by the webhost, in fact), and has an 8 character name, all
in lower case letters. So nothing about that image is corrupted.
Furthermore this is happening with most of my old images that had
hyperlinks on them, on all my websites, so the problem is systematic,
not related to this one image.

What gives? I've been searching google and newsgroups without
success.

PS
some firewalls will block images / link from "ad" type folders - like banner or ad

Stefan, no, these are simple images on simple webpages,
non-commercial.

Tom, I'll post a sample page when I get a chance. Thanks.

Not so fast. Norton blocks images based on their name and their size. Your
assumption may be incorrect.

Thanks for the tip. So if either the new ZA or new NAVPro versions
started doing this on my system, is there a way of telling them to let
FP through? Any tips on where to find out more about this issue?

The website that I have been having problems with lately (although all
my sites are a problem) is this non-profit organization:
www.blueheroncps.pe.ca. I have removed the images' hotlinks for now
and placed text links beside them.

The way to be absolutely sure is this. Browse to the page on the remote
site, and if you see missing images, look at the source code for that page
in the browser (i.e., VIEW | Source). If the code for the images is GONE,
then it's NA at work. Why they haven't been sued for this is beyond me.

But simply adding a hyperlink to an image should not cause something like
this to happen.
