Adding Frequently Used Symbols to Toolbar

In Word 2003 one could add frequently used symbols to the toolbar for easy
access. While the symbols used in the card game 'bridge', can be added to
the Symbol toolbar, I can't figure out how to color the heart and diamond red.

Unfortunately, Word 2007 allows only very limited customization, and editing
toolbar buttons is not provided for. I'm really hoping they're reintroduce
the Button Image Editor in Word 2010.

I'm assuming you *aren't* any longer using Word 2003 [2007, perhaps] & that
by "Symbol toolbar" you're referring to the dropdown palette in teh Symbols
group of the Ribbon? If my assumptions are correct...

Once you insert the character, select it & change the font color just as you
would for any alphanumeric character. If you intend to use them frequently
you can add them (one at a time) to the QuickParts Gallery or - even
better - as AutoCorrect items. See Word Help if you need it on how to do so:
