This http://support.microsoft.com/?id=304206 shows how to change the
extensions that Access will accept. The neatest method is the last,
editing the registry (provided you're careful<g>).
Alternatively, this http://support.microsoft.com/?id=306144 includes
code that automatically makes a copy of the textfile with a .txt
extension and imports that.
In Windows XP SP2, I very carefully altered the registry as suggested in
Method 3 of Article ID 304206. There were no change in my results. I cannot
import a normal txt file that I previously exported from Access in the first
place with the .txt extension changes to .ext. In addition, I tried adding
ext to the Extensions key and to the Jet 3.5 equivalent keys. Nothing is
helping so far.
Next I tried replacing (*.txt;*.csv;*.tab;*.asc) with
(*.txt;*.csv;*.tab;*.asc;*.ext) everywhere I found it in the registry. I was
able to import it, but it went through it's usual import routine. And it
would not export with a .ext extension. But at least I made some progress.
